So, I was thinking about how to help players get better. The current C4F setup is good in that it creates fairly even teams and allows for some feedback from mentors, but it's hard to actually move players up in skill level since they only play teams of similar skill level.

Of course, lower level teams scrimming against high level teams doesn't seem to work all that well either. It's just frustrating and it's hard to gain much from.

What I think would really help individual players is being able to ring for higher level teams. I'm thinking 2-3 players from established teams take on a ringer from the C4F pool, and play another team with a similar setup. You get a lot of first hand experience, get a feel for good leadership, learn some attacks, how to set up well, and get immediate feedback every step of the way.

I'm thinking games like that could just go on throughout the week at random times, whenever the teams had time and players were available.

Comments, thoughts?

+1 for using 'RFC' in the subject

I think this is a great idea. Currently my main way of trying to improve is by watching scrims that are casted then trying to mimic the strategies I observe. This has been helpful but only to a certain point. Getting some immediate feedback from players who have already mastered the strategies would be infinitely more helpful.

Also, setting up an environment such as this where learning is acceptable will help a lot of players. Personally, I know that I am reluctant to reply for any requests for ringers in groups such as L4D2 Scrim Network because the teams expect players to play at a high level. Asking questions or making mistakes is generally frowned upon and can upset the other members of the team (at least in my brief experience)

I like any opportunity I can get to learn how to play better. Especially since with my classes getting underway, I'm not available Wednesday nights anymore for C4F. I would love if this new idea worked out. One thing I worry about, though, is that it sounds sort of spontaneous. I'm not sure I would ever be able to participate unless I had an idea of where I needed to keep my schedule clear. For me school definitely has to come before L4D.

I would love to do this, the problem is finding teams that are willing to do this.

I know my team would be willing. =)

I like this idea, but how would it be implemented? Would there be a set date or would it just be 2 3 man teams agreeing to a ringer on both sides for that scrim?
